In 2019, I switched jobs and joined the recruitment world. It was the best choice I have ever made, career wise. Recruiters ensure that the right people are at the right working place. Enter: Syahidahnatrah *clapping-sounds-on-the-background* Or, how I like to call it, Cupid 💘 (dressed in a business outfit). PS: Let me trademark this before someone steals my idea.
Having three years of experience, and after I’ve screened countless C.V’s and went through thousands intakes. I must say, still nothing beats, when you have found the right match and both parties are happy. So, my question is: Do you need help with getting a job?
8 Best tips to get that job you want
1. Save the vacancy you have applied for on your phone.
2. The first call, Be Honest !
Thank them for calling you, and tell them you have applied for more vacancies. And ask to repeat the company name and if they have a moment, meanwhile you can search for the vacancy in your phone.
3. Be prepared
YESSSS! You’re invited for an interview.
1. Start with the companies background check. Visit their About us page and look for values you share, and you can bring to meet their company’s goal.
2. Make a Phone call to the recruiter that invited you and ask about the companies culture, dress code and what questions you can expect.
3. Go through their vacancy and list down why you are ‘THE’ candidate they are looking for
4. If it’s online, find a place where you can talk and can’t be disturbed. Also check your background, when your camera is on. The background can be distracting and can tell a lot about a person. So I would go for a wall, Always go for a wall.
4. Dress code
Think about the outfit you will wear, even if it’s an online intake. If you have followed step 2 at Be prepared, you are all good. This helps you prevent to show up in a bath-rope, for an online vacancy. YES, this happened before and NO, I didn’t continue with the intake.
5. Bodylaguage
Sit up straight. Look straight into their eyes when you are answering a question and manage your facial expression. Also: We can do a lot of things when we are nervous, some bite their lips, some move their knees-up and down, and I hope you know yours. Just let them know, you are nervous, and they will understand.
6. Having a positive Attitude
It’s a two-way street! They are looking for the right candidate, but you are also looking for a job! Where you will probably spend most of your time at and see them more than your friends. So as much as you want to work there, they should also be lucky to have you as their colleague.
7. Show up on time
1. Online interview and they have already sent you an invitation, do a check-up by clicking on the link and check for the following:
1. Do you need an app and set up an account?
2. Is your camera and microphone working?
3. Is the battery charged?
4. Do you have internet?
2. Interview at the company. Check for the following:
1. Travel by car or public transportation
2. Parking place or timetable
Either way, for both interviews you should show up 5 to 10 earlier. It shows; integrity and that you are punctual.
8. Practice
You can practice all the steps in-front of a mirror or with someone to double-check.
Good luck at your interview, I hope Cupid found your match and oh, if you’re rejecting or rejected think of this: Everything happens for a reason, if it is meant to be, it will find its way. If it’s not, They’re lost! Something better is waiting for you, but at another place and a different time. Wanna know one more life hack?
Change your hobby into your passion, and you don’t have to ‘work’ a day in your life,
